Celebrating Eshcon’s 15th Anniversary

Celebrating Eshcon’s 15th Anniversary Help me celebrate! 15 years ago, I set up Eshcon to develop and deliver my mission – to make environmental management THE business norm. 2006 seems an age ago now. It’s strange to look back and think about how I, and the business, have developed. Eshcon became full-time in 2012, previously working one day per week. I’ve had a rollercoaster of a ride – learning how to set up and run a business (never done that before), developing new services that clients really value, getting out and about to raise the profile of environmental management to a whole new audience. This is no mean feat seeing as most SMEs don’t last more than five years.   Anniversary party? Of course, I wanted to mark the anniversary. Pre Covid, it would be normal for companies to hold a little soirée - inviting clients, colleagues and partners for drinks and canapés. Parties aren’t really my thing, even if we were allowed to meet in person. I...

April 18 Newsletter – Risks & Opportunities

April 18 Newsletter - Risks & Opportunities Eshcon regularly sends out an e-newsletter to contacts – here’s the latest from April 2018.   ISO 14001 Deadline is Looming I’m getting a lot of calls from companies realising they need to act before the September deadline to update their EMS to the new ISO 14001 standard. Here’s how to turn hassle into success. Are you ready for MEES? From April 2018 the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard requires properties to have an EPC rating of E or better. A landlord or a tenant, this can affect you. Making ESOS Work for You To make your next ESOS Assessment run smoothly, it’s worth the effort now to put in the processes to gather good quality energy data. The better the information you supply to your ESOS Assessor, the deeper they can analyse it for energy saving opportunities. Here are 5 Top Tips to help your ESOS Assessor. FSB Awards – Eshcon is Green Business of the Year I was thrilled to be recognised as...

Feb 18 Newsletter – Great opportunities

Feb 18 Newsletter - Great opportunities in environment & business Eshcon regularly sends out an e-newsletter to contacts – here’s the latest from February 2018.   Combining your EMS & QMS A number of my clients have an ISO 9001 Quality Management System & now need to manage their environmental impacts. Rather than starting from scratch, adapting the existing system for the requirements of ISO 14001 reduces the amount of time & effort needed. See my blog & Factsheet for how to combine your QMS & EMS - I can help you. #PassOnPlastic Since Blue Planet II, there has been a lot of interest in marine plastic pollution. Every minute, a dustcart’s worth of plastic goes into our oceans, it never decomposes & affects marine life & our own food chain. #PassOnPlastic is a pledge to reduce or even eliminate single-use plastic, e.g. takeaway coffee cups, bottles, straws & microbeads in beauty products. Make the pledge yourself & encourage your company, school, council or other organisations to pledge. Deadline September...

June 17 Newsletter – Countdown to ISO 14001 & Support

June 17 Newsletter – Countdown to ISO 14001 & Support

ESHCon regularly sends out an e-newsletter to contacts – here’s the latest from June 2017. Countdown to ISO 14001 & Support Stepping out of your comfort zone Last month I attended edieLive, the UK’s leading two day energy, sustainability and resource efficiency event for businesses. I chaired two sessions, on water management and energy, and I also spoke about how ISO 14001 could help energy managers step out of their comfort zone.   There are many things make a manager uncomfortable & I considered three: Communicating; Risk management; & Other (non energy) activities. Using ISO 14001 helps address each of these issues.   See here for a summary & findings of my sessions.   Because most organisations are still early on in their environmental journey, they need a bit of hand-holding. Hence I use ISO 14001 to give them a formal structure to achieve their objectives.   World Environment Day 5th June was World Environment Day. I saw a lot of tweets & stories, mostly about connecting with nature, so I put...

10 Years

10 Years

ESHCon 10 Years and Counting! I’m proud to say that this year ESHCon will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. Wow, where has the time gone? 10 years of environmental management consultancy, working with such a range of interesting businesses, from micros to multi-nationals.   I’ve been chatting with several people recently who are thinking about setting up their own business. They were interested in my approach, how I’d established the business and good client base.   Now, of course, I’m no expert in this but I thought I’d jot down some of my thoughts on the past 10 years into a few bullet points.   Don’t be afraid to start - this could hold you back at first, but you just need to start… now!   Love what you do; do what you love - this is clear for me. I am passionate about my work which raises quality and customer satisfaction.   Get a mentor - this was really useful for me to plan my business and...

Race for Life

Race for Life

Race for Life Well that was tough!   Today, I ran the Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research. This was a good challenge for me, not only to raise money but also complete the distance, after getting back into running (well, jogging) again only recently.   Why was this important to do? We all know someone who's lost the battle with cancer. But more importantly we all know someone who will WIN THAT BATTLE! Cancer Research's work is so vital to increase those wins. I ran the Race for Life in memory of my dad Brian Ledwith. He hated being defined by the cancer and outlived his prognosis by 10 years! I’d be very grateful if you could dig deep and sponsor me online - it's quick, easy and totally secure. Events like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring me, we can unite and create a force that cancer can't ignore. If you're a UK...
